What drives the market.
A reference price for fine gold can serve as a common comparison point for bars and coins. Dealer premiums vary with product form and availability. The World Gold Council also separates bar and coin investment, ETF flows and other demand categories.
What to ask before comparing.
Ask for fine troy ounces, fineness, mint or refiner, exact product and buyback terms. For a collectible product, ask which part of the price reflects the object rather than its metal.
